Aexoden

I play a lot of games, but I mostly stream my speedruns, which are typically RPGs such as Final Fantasy IV. I may or may not stream something else at some point.

Updates

2023-05-31: The hiatus continues for the moment, as I am away from home for SGDQ and other travel. I am considering starting a "casual" 100% playthrough of the FInal Fantasy series on stream at some point in the next couple of months. I may or may not wait until after RPG Limit Break in July. I may also want to start streaming some of my other gameplay, but I'm not sure about that yet. I'm not sure what I'm doing with speedruns, if anything. I have a very long list of games I want to play casually, and spending any serious amount of time on speedrunning would conflict with that. I might consider doing some more casual speedruns where I learn the run and do it a few times, but stop short of trying to grind down a great time.

Speedrunning

My main speedrunning games are Final Fantasy IV and Final Fantasy V. I've dabbled in Sierra's Space Quest series. I may add others at some point. My current personal bests can be seen over at [speedrun.com](http://www.speedrun.com/user/Aexoden). I also have a PB of 3:23:53.52 for Final Fantasy IV Single Segment. That category isn't tracked at speedrun.com because it's largely the same as No64, but I personally find it interesting. I'm not currently actively speedrunning anything, but occasional runs may pop up now or then. In theory, my eventual goals are sub-3:50 in Final Fantasy V, sub-3:05 in Final Fantasy IV Any% No64 (both with and without turbo), and sub-3:30 in Final Fantasy IV Any% Glitchless. I will likely be looking to work on my FF4 SFC Any% time and learning FF4 SFC Any% Glitchless at some point. I have also done a TAS (tool-assisted speedrun) of Final Fantasy IV with a final time of 621980 frames or 2:52:29.29. It can be viewed on [Youtube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqebsIeMgng) but keep in mind it was a first attempt. I am slowly working on rerouting and optimizing the run. It will be several years before anything comes of that, however. Finally, I have also written a bot that speed runs Final Fantasy IV. It's a series of lua scripts for BizHawk, and has a current PB of 3:02:14, which would be the world record if we put bots on leaderboards. The source code is available at my [github](http://github.com/aexoden/edge).

Chat Rules

I don't have a lot of rules, other than to generally treat your fellow chatters with respect. I have faith that we're all capable of acting like adults. Don't prove me wrong. Please follow the guidance offered by the NoSpoilers and NoBackseating tags. Spoilers mean literally anything (story, lore, gameplay mechanics, etc.) that has not been explained on stream (either by me or by the game). Yes, this is a very expansive definition. It is both for my benefit if I haven't played the game or if it has been a while, but also for the benefit of any viewers who haven't played. Don't assume everyone already knows everything. Even if I'm not explicitly limiting spoilers, please be mindful of viewers who may not have played the game and avoid overt story spoilers until after that part of the game. Backseating refers to any suggestions of what to do or how to do it. In some instances, I may ask chat for help or ideas, but expect that to be relatively rare. Try not to be concerned about me missing something. If I absolutely only want to do one playthrough, I will be using a guide anyway, and if I don't use a guide, I will be going in expecting to possibly do two or more playthroughs. We'll get there, I promise. If I'm doing a speedrun (or a particularly intense section in a casual playthrough), I may need to keep my focus on the game and may temporarily ignore chat. As such, any decisions made by my moderators are presumed final for the duration of the stream. Afterward, I may choose to review any moderation and take action I feel most appropriate.

FAQ

#How do you pronounce *Aexoden*? I try not to. #How do other people pronounce it? Roughly in order from most popular to least popular: Axoden, Exoden, Ex-Odin, and Achesoden. I probably like the first two the most. If forced, I probably say the second one. #How long have you been playing FF4? I originally received it as a gift not long after it first came out, so probably in 1991 or 1992. I only began speedrunning it in early 2015, however.
