I work full-time in my chosen field and make more than enough to sustain myself comfortably without the help of any donations, subscriptions, bits etc. As such, any money I collect through this hobby goes into a sort of informal slush fund which I distribute at whim to other streamers to help them have nice things (due to my fickle and selfish nature, this usually ends up going into stuff like GDQ fundraisers for my online friends). I will happily accept any subscription money/bits offered and add them to this fund, but it would be more efficient if you were to find someone on your following list who is more in need than I or my friends and donate to them directly, and it would probably make me feel better too.
