What Do? Do as you please - lurk like we're a radio station or chat like we're at the local coffee shop - so long as you enjoy your visit. Our hope is you'll find a new friend, track, or drum technique to take with you. There is nothing I do on this kit that has not been done before - and frankly, much better by other drummers right here on Twitch, so keep an eye out for those huge talents. Everything I've learned began with admiration that morphed into examination, and finally determination. As with all things, there are no shortcuts. Don't hesitate to ask questions. Before Twitch (02/24/18), I did YouTube (2007-2018) if interested, that content is on the youtube channel [Spacebee01](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-UZdqur0FBg&list=PL5D4A8D90443F010F). For stream archives, we use [DrumWhispererVods](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVB2wv6ujR14syBXAeYjK9A). We are a patient channel, and always seek opportunities to help our community - seriously. A special thanks to my HS music teacher, and 'teachers' everywhere . . . who taught a stupid kid life as much as music. There is a notable variety of world music found here - expect surprise ear candy. We sincerely thank each of you. This is my only 'practice' time, so your diverse requests are key in my development - most appreciated - like you have no idea how much!! #ChatBestDJ Our MODs do incredible things - quietly - so please be kind. Note: quiet and patient do not save you from the BAN HAMMER - bots n' trolls will be quickly removed.

Roughly 80% of requests I've never heard before playing them here live on stream. This is the point! We get to discover new music together! I also get to challenge my ability to 'think quick rabbit'. I can think of no better way to sharpen the tools in the box (or find new ones). If you want me to learn a song, just request it repeatedly. We use [NIGHTBOT](https://nightbot.tv/) for song requests. Please keep them around six (6) minutes. The bot can not handle two or more requests at the same time, it chooses one, and ignores the rest. We have learned to affectionately call this Q WAR. If you plan to request on a busy day - sharpen your axe, restring your bows - its gets filthy. Just keep pasting your request in until you see a 'receipt' acknowledging its place in the queue. If you don't see a receipt, keep requesting the same link. Requests are played in the order received - to be both fair, and predictable. This channel believes strongly in free speech, and the teaching moments that promotes. Music, by definition is emotion, and any given lyric/video may contain 'offensive' material to some. Personally, I'm more PG. We play two (2) 90 minute sets of requests. The bot will respond until the 90 minutes has been queued, then closes - and will not respond to ANY command. (nightbot limitation). You will know the queue is closed by the scrolling yellow/black banner at the top of the screen. Q & A 1. HOW IS THE AUDIO DONE? - We seem to get a fair amount of comments regarding the drum mix. a) TUNING tune top head to the natural tone of the shell, for longer resonant tone. Then tune the lower head slightly offset (higher or lower to taste), to create a bend in the tone - careful, not too much. I change heads when the resonance fades a noticeable amount. For me, after about 100hrs of play, or before important sessions. b) MICS - these are not that expensive - but placement and processing are key. I use two x-mounted overheads(sm81), 5 close tom/snare (sm57), and a kick mic (beta52) (half in the air hole of the external kick head, pointed at the beater). This air hole, combined with the large diaphragm mic (beta52), and proper muffling, yields a solid chest thumping tone. Close mics are angled to focus on the drum/area that produces the most warmth and sustain, minimizing other sources where possible. (Due to the close mics, other sources bleed in, so all the mics are balanced to use these bleed overs). c) PROCESSING Digital 4-band parametric EQ, (applied 'subtractively') to isolate the sustaining tones, and ignore the harsh. Compression, Limiting, and Reverb. d) CONSTANT REVIEW -audio is reviewed after each stream, and incremental changes are made over time to dial things in - whalla - instant success! :^) 2. **PLAYING INSTRUCTION**: I am NOT formally educated, but self-taught. (something I regret). What I can offer is my personal experience of 40+ years, and my best advice for quality educational options. a) IN PERSON By far - the fastest, and most accurate way to learn is one-on-one private instruction. Get recommendations for a local instructor who is patient, will explain the logic, and even physically reach out and shape your seating balance, grip, etc... constantly adjusting efficiencies. Find the one who makes you work hard, but fair. Your instructor will advise what resources to use, but until then, here are a few links to some tried and true instructional devices. b) WRITTEN [Stick Control](https://tinyurl.com/uysmt7p) [Progressive Steps To Syncopation For The Modern Drummer](https://tinyurl.com/tmaxalz) [Advanced Techniques For The Modern Drummer Vol I](https://tinyurl.com/thsnn6g) [Advanced Techniques For The Modern Drummer Vol II](https://tinyurl.com/v28srug) c) VIDEO [Dave Weckl - Back To Basics](https://tinyurl.com/qpojoae) [Dr. Steve Gadd - Various](https://tinyurl.com/u3by3m8) [Vinnie Colaiuta - Various](https://tinyurl.com/uom27l4) [JoJo Mayer - Secret Weapons For The Modern Drummer](https://tinyurl.com/vvcjots) [Jeff Porcaro](https://tinyurl.com/v4cpojr) d) WEBSITE [Drumeo](https://www.drumeo.com/) [DrummerWorld](https://www.drummerworld.com) 3. This kit is a (lacquered) Aqua Blue Pearl Export. I use the steel snare from my original kit, adding the 'newer' toms later as a custom build. The toms (8",10",12",14") are deeper than normal, the kick is a standard 22". The kit does not use a floor tom. The Hi-Hat cymbals are rare, and the oldest part of the kit, a very heavy 12"orchestral pair, making them unique in both size and weight. The ride is also very heavy. The rest I prefer be very light, fast attack, or effect - so Zildjian "A's" are my go to - collected over decades. (6", 8", 12" splash - 12"HHs - 14", 16" crash - 15" stack [NickyMoon.com], 18" china - 20" ride) The links below represent the closest modern equivalent, for reference, and are not monetized to benefit this site.
