My name is Joey Aldama and I am a professional Super Smash Bros. Melee player. I play primarily under the gamertag “Lucky” but I also answer to “The Batman.” After playing Melee casually for some time I decided, in early 2007, to compete in tournaments and by 2011 I considered myself one of the top 5 players from the West Coast. In 2015 I was ranked #12 in the world on MIOM’s SSBM power rankings and dropped to #19 in 2016 while I was redesigning how I play the game. Using my new style I hope to solidify myself as a top 10 player in the world and as a threat that can win any event no matter who my competition is. Outside of melee I enjoy superheroes, anime, craft beers and hanging out with my girlfriend Cathy, “gummy0ctopus” who also streams. As a kid I grew up watching superhero cartoons like Batman, Spiderman and Ninja turtles all the time so I naturally ended up loving them. My love for cartoons made anime a logical progression, starting with Fullmetal Alchemist and Trigun. Craft beers are kinda personal for me because of the way I got into them. When I was 9 my older brother passed away and when I got older a cousin I never got to know when growing up, who was close to my brother, offered to show me what real beer was while hanging out. While we got to know each other he told me old stories about my brother and that was really special for me so now it will always remind me of my cousin, who reminds me of my brother. Thanks to my success in melee and streaming, I am able to do both as a fulltime job and I am extremely thankful to all my supporters. I spend a lot of my time on stream trying to improve at melee so expect to see tech skill practice and match analysis but I also play 1v1’s online with my subs and sometimes non-subs.
