Established in 2016, the Pittsburgh Pawngrabbers are one of the original PRO Chess League teams, and stands to promote chess in the Pittsburgh community, while also supporting the rapid development of chess as an esport. Entering its third season, the Pawngrabbers embrace their "underdog" reputation with one of the youngest teams in the league, backed by US Hall of Famer Grandmaster Alexander Shabalov and 15 year old American prodigy, Grandmaster Awonder Liang.
