I was born with a physical handicap called Phocomelia. Phocomelia is a rare congenital deformity in which the hands or feet are attached close to the trunk, the limbs being very underdeveloped or absent. I am also amputee. I was also born without an ankle bone in my right leg. As a baby it was amputated, so i could still be able to walk a little bit better. I have been this way all my life. when i turned 6, I started walking in prosthetic legs to help me walk. Even to this day i still use prosthetic legs, because without them, if I were to walk outside without them, I wouldn't be able to walk anymore. When I'm at home I do walk without my prosthetic legs, it makes it easier to get around my home, without always wearing my prosthetics. I know that this will always be my struggle during my life, but I'm not letting it hold me back. I'm going to keep always pushing forward in this struggle. I do sometimes look at my gift as a curse at some points, because I can't do everything everyone can. Then i look at it as a blessing, because it gives me a chance to try to see if I can do things being this way. I do make jokes about myself, but it's not to put myself down, it's to keep me from feeling like I'm in a dark place and being depressed about being this way. Making jokes about myself, helps me cope with being born with phocomelia. I am grateful to those that don't treat me any different knowing my condition.
