**Q: What is this?** Im attempting to break my segmented record in FFIX **Q: What does that mean?** A lot of people run the whole game in one sitting to beat the game as quickly as possible, known as a Real Time Attack (RTA). Im going for the lowest In Game Time (IGT) meaning I can spend minutes in the game over hours of real time **Q: So are these real attempts?** If the description has (Practice) in it, Im practicing, but I can always save a practice run. **Q: Why is your stream so crappy right now?** I'm a Mac boy, some things dont work good. Thanks, Steve Jobs.

**Q: Why do you keep reseting, even if it's just practice?** Im trying to beat the current world record, so I need perfect or near perfect segments. That means no random encounters, flawless movement, and great menu-ing. If all that doesn't happen in a segment, I wont keep it. If Im practicing, Im trying to see realistically how fast I can do certain segments. **Q: What is the current world record?** Current record is held by me with a time of 7:56:02 **Q: What is the goal time?** Faster.

**Q: What tricks do you use to save time?** First and foremost; fast disc speed. This is a feature on the PS2 that allows the machine to spin the actual disc faster to load more quickly. The PS1 ran at a lower speed than the PS2, so when playing on a PS2 you can set how fast you want it to read games. It wont work with every game, but for FFIX it reduces load times by about half a second per load. Considering you load over 2000 screens in the game, it can easily save over 40 minutes in a full run. Besides that, knowing when to use the D-Pad and when to use the Analog Stick is key. The quickest route from point A to point B is a straight line, and using the D-Pad can help you not move around like a drunken sailor. **Q: How did you come up with this route?** The vast majority of this is completely copied from [Essentia's run](http://speeddemosarchive.com/FinalFantasy9.html). A few routing changes and tricks come from [Lil_Gecko's TAS run](http://tasvideos.org/3489S.html), some hints from the [RTA route](https://youtu.be/7EBmJZVHOxM?t=11m21s) as played at AGDQ 2013 (not the RTA world record, but the commentary is great), and handful of my own tweaks, mostly coming from gil needs and skipping certain save points. Saving with a moogle on the world map takes 16.5 seconds and a moogle save on a regular screen takes about 12 seconds, so skipping some save points is nice.
