**What software do you use?** Adobe Photoshop CC **What tablet(s) do you use?** I use a Wacom Intuos Medium I also have an iPad Pro that I sometimes use off stream. **What brushes do you use?** -I have 4 brushes that I use primarily. One for sketching, and 3 for painting. The painting brushes are basically used for different stages of the painting, from beginning, to middle, to end. I haven't made any of them myself but don't recall where I got them. **Can you suggest any good art books?** Yes! Here's a small list of my favorite books. -[How To Draw](http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1933492732/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=1933492732&linkCode=as2&tag=sampetersonar-20&linkId=MEOQIDT4AVWSKJUK) and [How To Render] by Scott Robertson (A LOT of good info on perspective and how to apply it, and rendering/values) -[Figure Drawing: Design and Invention](http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0615272819/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0615272819&linkCode=as2&tag=sampetersonar-20&linkId=XAYWPCPPSB5IULYZ) by Michael Hampton (Fantastic book that combines figure drawing and anatomy with an emphasis on simplifying them as 3D forms) -The ImagineFX Anatomy issue of their magazine. (Collection of tutorials from Ron Lemen) -[Dream Worlds](http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0240520939/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0240520939&linkCode=as2&tag=sampetersonar-20&linkId=VYGDJURMR3YJWILU) and [Framed Ink](http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1933492953/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=1933492953&linkCode=as2&tag=sampetersonar-20&linkId=46YJU4TF2CZ3A27S) (Two great resources on the under-discussed topic of composition) -[Imaginative Realism](http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0740785508/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0740785508&linkCode=as2&tag=sampetersonar-20&linkId=PAKRJVBE6TFXD2VZ) and [Color and Light](http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0740797719/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0740797719&linkCode=as2&tag=sampetersonar-20&linkId=MIO3C56VZH4SUBLJ) by James Gurney (Overall great books that cover various topics for illustration) -Any of Andrew Loomis's books which are free online. [Loomis](http://www.alexhays.com/loomis/) **How do you get good at art and how should I start?** Consistency and practice. Start with something that excites you (the human figure, characters, environments, vehicles, illustrations etc) because that will keep you drawing consistently, and being consistent is step 1. Step 2 is doing studies and putting new information into your head to pull from, then trying to apply that information by doing pieces from imagination. Remember, you can't output what you don't input. Other than that it's really just about mileage and hours spent practicing. I also made a YouTube video on this topic as well as how to stay motivated.
