History
Being a Hip-Hop head (almost a purist) I had asked my parents for a set of turntables as my graduation gift in 2010. I was so intrigued by the art of DJ'ing, especially turntablism (People like: DJ Kentaro, DJ Fly, JFB, DJ Crazy etc.).
When I got my first TT's (Numark TT-1650), with my first set of records I was like "now what?". I had a few records which were totally not DJ friendly, nor were the BPM's close enough for my pitchfader, so I quickly found out that I had NO idea what I was doing.
I went on with my life but as life tends to go I got hit with the DnB-virus after attending my 1st Drum and Bass event per mistake. I joined a few friends who were going out since I had nothing else to do, and totally fell in love with the genre. I loved the rawness, the energy, the vibe, I loved it all! I suddenly went from a Hip-Hop head to a DnB geek, almost overnight.
After a bit of research I discovered that DnB is way more DJ-friendly then Hip-Hop is, and started collecting DnB records to be able to learn beatmatching skills to be able to start mixing hip hop.
This resulted in a love for DnB, with the collection to match. I got about 1200 DnB records, all across the DnB spectre (Jungle, Liquid, Rollers, Neuro etc. etc.).
New Stream Ideas
1) Nielsch Radio
Start off each stream with a wannabe radio show. 1 Hour off selected tunes to showcase. All genre's, no Mixing. Just playing a selection of tunes with a bit of chatting in between the tunes. A few themes can be included, for instance: a "Dutch classic of the week" or the "community tune of the week".
2) Production Stream
The name is quite self explanatory. Fire up Ableton and cook up a beat with the chat. This can be meme bootlegs, remixes, original tunes. It does not have to be only DnB. This can be a part of a stream, or a project spanning across multiple streams or whatever.
3) Tune Discovery
Interactively checking out new music (to add to the DJ-tunes). Songs can be provided by chat, or just go on a deep-dive on websites like Beatport.
4) Curate a Mix
Curating a mix alongside chat. So starting from an intro tune, and keep testing new blends untill we find a transition which really works. After that its on to the next one, and the next one, and the next one, untill we got a complete mix. This will most likely take more then 1 stream for a complete mix.
5) Get a Mic
Keep the stream as it is, just get a mic to make the stream a bit more interactive.
