Working with software and systems for almost 30 years. 60% software engineer, from bash, C, and Perl to Javascript, Ruby, and Crystal. 40% systems/devops (SRE). A strong believer in learning, mentorship, and knowledge sharing. https://bit.ly/futurestack-twitch
I've been making my living by either writing software or managing/architecting the systems that it runs on for, more or less, 30 years now.
On my channel, we'll work with people who are just learning to program, as well as working on in-depth projects in Ruby, React, Crystal, or other languages/Frameworks. Sometimes I will stream with a purpose and a plan, while other times I am just hacking on something.
Drop-in, and ask me questions. I enjoy talking about both what I am working on or teaching as well as anything that you might be wondering about.
My name is Kirk Haines, but I am *wyhaines* on most social media:

## Newbie Sundays
Follow along as Theo works her way through the Turing School's backend curriculum while I mentor her. Every week we will pair on whatever she happens to be working on at the time.
## Madcap Mondays
This is an anything-goes sort of start to the week. We could dive down into a project that didn't get enough time the week before, or we could explore libraries, language features, frameworks, or even have a guest on to talk about devops. The itinerary will be ever-shifting.
## Ruby::Tuesdays
On Tuesdays, I dive into something Ruby-related. We could learn about a library or a framework, or work on some code, or drop down into the Ruby internals to work on a bug within Ruby, among many other possibilities. But we'll always focus on Ruby on Tuesdays.
## Project Wednesdays
Every quarter I will be focused on a different long-term project for that quarter. On Wednesdays, the stream will be dedicated to working on that project.
## Crystal::Thursdays
Crystal is a fun, compelling language. It is inspired by Ruby, statically typed and compiled, easy and productive to develop in (and particularly easy for Rubyists to pick up), and compiles to fast, resource-efficient binaries. Every Thursday I am going to be working with Crystal.
There are no frequently asked questions, yet. :) Feel free to drop into the channel and chat. I'm always looking for people to collaborate with, so shoot me a DM if that is something that you would like to talk about!
