Banano Plays Pokemon - How to Play

Those of you who were around for Twitch Plays Pokemon in 2014 will already be aware of how this works. For everyone else, here's a summary of how this works: An invisible bot is running in my channel that converts specific *chat inputs* into *gameplay commands* in a fraction of a second. However, there will be a delay on-screen between your input and its execution in the game. # List of Valid Inputs this list can be summoned in chat by typing !inputs. The inputs are in bold. Each command (except one) has TWO input options so you can evade the spam filter. *Updates on our current game goals can be found on the Banano Plays Pokemon Twitter page:* [https://twitter.com/BananoPlaysPKMN](https://twitter.com/BananoPlaysPKMN) + **up** or **u** = move up + **down** or **d** = move down + **right** or **r** = move right + **left** or **l** = move left + **press a** or **a** = interact with objects/people in the overworld/select options in the menus/progress dialogue + **press b** or **b**= back out of a menu or progress dialogue + **start** = open the menu while in the overworld The bot does *not* care about capitalization but does care about spelling. The bot will translate any messages that contain **exactly one valid input** from the above options. ## Examples of Invalid and Valid Inputs - "down Benis hehe" = message contains extra text, therefore *not a valid input* - "down start" = message contains more than one input at once, *invalid* - "dwon" = message is spelled incorrectly, *invalid input* - "down" = **valid input** - "DoWn" = **ALSO a valid input** You can still type non-command messages into the chat, the input bot will simply ignore them. Banano Plays Pokemon - Troubleshooting

# Troubleshooting Stream Issues *Problem:* The stream broke for a few seconds and now it's back, but chat commands aren't working! **Solution:** This is a known issue with the command bot. We've lowered the risk of these mini-disconnects as much as possible. If a disconnect occurs, the bot will be restarted as soon as possible. Check the Twitter account frequently, as a post will be made there when the internet is back up. *Problem:* I don't know what's happening in the game. What are we supposed to be doing again? **Solution:** Worry not, friend! We know that this is many people's first time playing a Pokemon game. We have a running series of updates and guidelines on our Twitter that will help everyone get on the same page about our goals. Check it out here: [https://twitter.com/BananoPlaysPKMN](https://twitter.com/BananoPlaysPKMN) Or look for it on this Twitch page. *Problem:* The spam filter won't let me post the same input twice in a row. **Solution:** Each game command has two different valid inputs. For example, typing either **a** or **press a** will BOTH result in the same action in-game. Additionally, *altering which letters are capitalized* can also help overcome this filter. No one but Twitch can disable this spam filter, so we've had to work around it. Sorry about that! *Problem:* My chat commands don't instantly happen on-screen **Solution:** Latency is unavoidable on Twitch, and we've lowered it as much as possible. Latency should not be above 30 seconds and has hovered around 6-15 seconds in past playtests. Be sure and refresh the stream often, because the stream can start to fall behind on your end of things, and I have no control over that. *Problem:* The stream is really lagging for me. It takes more than 30 seconds for my command to go through, even with refreshing the stream. **Solution:** There are a few things you can do. Click/tap on your video settings, which should be a gear-shaped icon in one of the corners of your video player. From here, you can lower the resolution of the video, which will prevent it from stuttering and slow any stutter-related latency. You can turn on the low-latency player in the settings, which should be a sliding switch. Some playtesters report not seeing this option in their settings. If you are on a mobile device, make sure your Twitch app is up to date and try again.

Banano Plays Pokemon - FAQ

Q: What the hell is a Banano and why is it playing Pokemon? A: In this case, Banano refers to the community of people who enjoy the cryptocurrency of the same name, but we're a lot more than that. Through the power of our fun little coin, we help each other learn new things, fight for just causes, and be better people! The Banano community is always inventing new ways to use our crypto for having fun or helping others. This stream is one example of that. You can learn more about banano and/or join the banano discord from this website: [https://banano.cc/](https://banano.cc/) Q: Does this stream give out Banano? A: Yes, you *can* get Banano from participating in this playtest and future official streams, but there's no guarantee of receiving Banano. To be eligible, here's what you do: - First, you need to join Banano's official discord if you aren't already a part of it. You can get your invite from here: [https://chat.banano.cc/](https://chat.banano.cc/) - Next, type !register in the twitch chat of this channel to receive a link to a Google form which you'll need to fill out in full. - Finally, participate in the stream by sending valid inputs to control the game. The list of inputs can be found in the How To Play panel on this page, or you can request it in chat using !inputs Q: What's the goal in the Pokemon game right now? A: For our current goals and a timeline of our past accomplishments, please check our official Banano Plays Pokemon Twitter account [https://twitter.com/BananoPlaysPKMN](https://twitter.com/BananoPlaysPKMN) which will also be linked here on this page. Q: Who's in charge here? Show yourself! A: Hi, I go by Altariasong or my real name, Moss, in the Banano community. I'm a strange person who loves crafting, video games, science, and birds. I have a pet conure named Pipkin and I've run several other events in the Banano community. I had a role in some of the first Vinesauce Charity Streams, but that was awhile ago. Vinesauce has much better machine-made plushies now, I'm super happy for them. Special shoutouts to Kron and Phantoad for helping to guide me on how to make this project a success, and to Prussia for their help coding and troubleshooting this wretched bot. I have several mods that are doing rotation on watching over the stream, please be nice to them. Q: Are you a boy or a girl? A: Alright, who let Professor Oak in here? We're not even *playing* that generation!
