Your queer, goth homeboy and native to Tucson, AZ, MIJITO (he/they) ventured into the world of DJing in 2017 after curating playlists and making mixes as a hobby. With love and influence for many genres of music from Post-Punk to 90’s R&B and Electro to EBM, MIJITO takes pride in his versatility on the decks. After successful soft opening sets, radio spots on NitewaveRadio (Phoenix) and Textbeak’s CHVяCH XV BяXK3N 7ANGvAG3 (Ohio), he booked his first major gig, which immediately turned into his first residency spinning darkwave, nu goth, techno, industrial, trip-hop, and witch house. 2018 brought MIJITO the opportunity to produce events and add promoter to his resume. As part of a DJ collective, he created an artistic space combining music, art, community, and live performance. With much success and a growing following, after a year of working collectively, he was offered a monthly night of his own, which birthed MIJITO’s first solo club concept, Nitecall. After consistently guest deejaying dark dance nights, underground dance parties, and producing events in Tucson, MIJITO booked his first few gigs in Phoenix in 2018. Only an introduction to the Phoenix scene, a coveted guest booking at Lilith rapidly became his first residency in Phoenix in early 2019. From underground house shows, private parties, lounges, supporting live acts, and large dance clubs in Tucson and Phoenix, 2019 solidified MIJITO’s presence in nightlife. MIJITO thrives on keeping things fresh and exciting, which in 2020 he utilized to find a home live-streaming events on Twitch after the shutdown of clubs due to our ongoing pandemic. He quickly jumped at the opportunity to continue his craft and support his local community through virtual clubs. This new online platform has not only resulted in new club concepts such as Club X (Industrial/Body Music), Sin/thetic (EBSM/Sinister Techno/Industrial Bass), Noir Frequencies (Witch House/Post-Industrial), Disco Oscura (New Beat/Dark Disco), and Body Work (Electro/House/Nu Disco), but also collaborative events with local and out-of-state DJs, live acts, and artists. MIJITO sprung into DJing with zero experience or background in music, but a serious passion for the art of music, the skill of curating, and respect for musicians. Early on he realized the importance of owning his identity as a queer person of color in entertainment, and knew qpoc faces and voices were lacking in the business. He wanted to be part of changing the face of nightlife through booking, fundraising, advocacy, and having a voice. MIJITO has played AZ clubs such as Ritual, Häxan, Opti Club, Nocturne, Club Sanctuary, Arizona Fetish Society’s Fetish Ball, Order Of The Owl, Necrotek, Logic Error, MESH, Bad Habit, and Cupcake. He's also supported domestic and international live acts in-person and virtually such as Alter Der Ruine, NNHMN, Crystal Geometry, Twin Tribes, Mannequin, 6th Circle, Choke Chain, Cold Choir, Satanic Hispanic, Winkie, L, and Lav Andula. He currently holds residencies at Nitecall (Tucson, Az), Lilith (Phoenix, Az), and Luna Negra (Palm Springs, CA).
