My grandfather, Herb McCandless Sr., started drag racing in 1959 at the age of 16. He was immediately hooked and "Mr. 4 Speed" was born. While Granddaddy could shift a 4-Speed better than anyone, "MrF4Speed" was coined for the channel because of my proclivity for being a long-run driver in NASCAR Racing 2003 Season, where the in-game F4 menu was used to gauge tire temperatures. It seemed to be a fitting way to pay tribute to his incredible racing career and carry on the McCandless legacy of hard work leading to success! Granddaddy used his unique shifting skills and consistent driving to launch an illustrious racing career that spanned for a better part of the 60s and 70s. Here are some of his racing accomplishments: 1968: Won 36 of 52 races run, placing 2nd in 8 of the races. These were “Southern Style Heads Up” events. 1968: AHRA Heads Up Super Stock Champion 1970: Won the Inaugural NHRA Pro Stock Eliminator at the US Nationals in Indianapolis 1970: Became first ever drag racer to record NHRA National Event Wins in both Pro and Sportsman Eliminators in the same season 1971: First time in NHRA history that 2 teammates (Ronnie Sox & Granddaddy) ran each other in a final event 1972: Won 4 out of 6 United States Racing Team Events (Englishtown, Union Grove, Atco, New England) 1973: First Ever Pro Stock to run 8.53 at Atco, NJ 1976: Won 3 IHRA Super Modified Eliminator Races 1997: Inducted into Super Stock Magazine Hall of Fame 2002: Inducted into South East Drag Racing Times Hall of Fame 2008: Inducted into NC Drag Racing Hall of Fame 2017: Recipient of the Mopar President's Award in recognition of his excellence in racing, service as a Mopar brand ambassador, and loyal commitment to the Mopar brand
