***Twitch has consistently shown that protecting marginalized populations isn't their priority, yet they still take a unconscionably large cut of what you generously give to Affiliated and Partnered streamers (many of whom belong to these communities) through subscribing and cheering.*** This is NOT okay, and isn’t an issue limited to Twitch. I chose to end my affiliateship with Twitch due to their actions, but many streamers can’t or choose not to for a variety of reasons. One huge reason is that nearly all streamers who end their financial relationships with Twitch take a considerable cut in income. The situation feels crushing and hopeless for many of us. *But there is something that you can do to help.* Instead of supporting Twitch streamers using subs and bits (which is a terrible deal for everyone involved except for Amazon), give directly to their non-Twitch options like Patreon, Ko-fi, PayPal, CashApp, etc; engage them for the services they may offer such as commission or consulting work, teaching or public speaking, or myriad other things; and seek out and participate in mutual aid events and fundraisers for marginalized creators. These are just a few suggestions, but a small shift in our behaviors around giving can make an enormous difference.
