Glad you asked! The viola da gamba or viol is a string instrument that one supports on their legs ("gamba" in Italian) and plays with a bow. It's *not a cello* because it has more strings (6 to 7 strings) and always has frets :) In addition, there are many sizes of viols, from violin-sized to contrabass-sized :D If you want to know more, in [this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOwTnxfhsvo) I explain the differences between a viola da gamba and a cello
