Making Wraithbinder, a roguelite with metroidvania-inspired ability progression and co-op multiplayer.

Hey all. :) The game being developed here is called *Wraithbinder*, an online co-operative hack-n-slash with base building where the monsters you slay become part of your team. It is set in the *[Songbringer](http://songbringer.com)* universe. I do the programming, pixel art, sound and music. If you miss any of the live streams, there's a [Youtube archive](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLOpeoDNlbwUGUdBzJaCrAD-3W3fccBLD4). Songbringer was released in 2017 on [Steam](http://store.steampowered.com/app/367080), [GOG](https://www.gog.com/game/songbringer), [Xbox One](https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/p/songbringer/9pj4s2q7d5n7), [Playstation 4](https://psngames.org/ps4-games/) and [Nintendo Switch](https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/songbringer-switch/). On PCs, it plays on Windows, Mac and Linux. **FAQ** **Q: What language / engine is this?** It's written in C++ and built with the [cocos2d-x](http://www.cocos2d-x.org) cross-platform game engine and a game engine wrapper called KitFu. [EntityFu](https://github.com/natweiss/entityfu) is the Entity Component System in use. **Q: How to get started in game development?** Start with [Extra Credits](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z06QR-tz1_o&index=7&list=PLhyKYa0YJ_5BkTruCmaBBZ8z6cP9KzPiX). I recommend beginning with getting comfortable with a game engine. Play around with [Pygame](http://www.pygame.org/news.html), [GameMaker](https://www.yoyogames.com/studio), [Construct](https://www.scirra.com), [Unity](https://unity3d.com) and [Unreal](https://www.unrealengine.com/what-is-unreal-engine-4) then pick one you like and do some simple tutorials. Keep doing tutorials until you feel comfortable with the engine. As you learn gamedev, focus on learning all of its aspects a little each day. Gamedev is a masterful art requiring skills with many medium: coding, digital art, music, story, design, business. **Q: I'm a programmer, how do I learn to make art?** Check out this little mini video series on going [from programmer to artist](http://wizardfu.com/book/from-programmer-to-artist/). **Q: What software do you use?** Neovim, Xcode and Visual Studio for coding, Photoshop for pixel art, Ableton and Massive for making music, Bfxr and Massive for sound effects. **Q: Are you standing up?** Sometimes. **Q: How long have you been coding?** Programming >20 years, music >10 and pixel art >3. **Q: Rig setup?** This is a Macbook Pro late 2013 model with retina display and SSD. I use [Gameshow](http://gameshow.net/) to broadcast. **Q: Do you have a donation link / Patreon?** You can buy the game or [donate with Twitchalerts](https://twitch.streamlabs.com/wizard_fu). **Q: Why the name Songbringer?** The first plot I wrote for the game was about interstellar rockstars who saved a planet from being overrun by playing their music. After re-writing the story a few times, I decided to keep the name *Songbringer* for the spaceship. **Q: Does Songbringer have any music?** Yep. Here's a link to the [soundtrack on Bandcamp](https://wizardfu.bandcamp.com/album/songbringer-original-soundtrack).
